In addition to treating all conditions of the hair, skin and nails we also offer the following special services to our patients. To learn more about these or any of our services please don’t hesitate to Contact Us.
Narrow Band Ultraviolet B Therapy
Narrow band UVB has become the phototherapy treatment of choice for psoriasis, vitiligo, eczema and other photoresponsive skin disorders. UVB works by penetrating the skin and slowing the growth of inflammatory skin cells. Treatment involves exposing the skin to an artificial UVB light source for a set length of time on a regular schedule. This treatment is administered in the doctor’s office.
UVB is often combined with other topical and/or systemic agents to enhance efficacy.
Blue Light Photodynamic Therapy (PDT)
PDTOur practice utilizes the Blue-U Blue Light Photodynamic therapy with Levulan Kerastick, which is indicated for the treatment of actinic keratosis (pre-cancer) of the face and scalp. During this treatment, a topical solution of Levulan is applied to the skin, which is then absorbed by the pre-cancerous cells. This solution makes the cells extremely sensitive to light. When the cells are exposed to the Blu-U light, a reaction occurs which kills the pre-cancerous cells.
Mohs surgery, also known as chemosurgery, is microscopically controlled surgery used to treat common types of skin cancer. It utilizes frozen section histology to obtain complete margin control during removal of a skin cancer. Because this procedure is micrographically controlled, it provides precise removal of cancerous tissue, while preserving as much as the surrounding tissue as possible. It is usually recommended for the removal of skin cancers in the head and neck area. Your dermatologist will help you decide if Mohs surgery is suggested for your skin cancer.
